Celebrating the life of

James Lewis Poole

September 06, 1943 - July 20, 2025

James Lewis Poole

James Lewis “Louie” Poole passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was 81 years old.

Born on September 6, 1943, Louie was the son of Hansford Allen Poole and Lorena Sapp Kaplan. After his father’s passing, his mother remarried Alex Kaplan, expanding the family Louie held dear throughout his life.

A proud veteran, Louie served his country honorably as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War where he was awarded a Purple Heart.  Following his service, he worked as a skilled union pipe fitter with Local 188 and remained committed to his trade and his brothers in the field throughout his career.

Louie was a longtime member of The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. His faith was central to his life, and he was active in numerous faith-based and civic organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans, the American Legion, and the Savannah Quarterback Club.

He was an avid sports fan with a lifelong passion for the Boston Red Sox and Notre Dame Football—teams he followed with devotion and pride.

Louie is survived by his two sons, James L. Poole, Jr. and Daniel W. Poole; his closest friend of 47 years, Andreia Peters-Brown; and his nephew, Randy Poole, along with Randy’s children—Chris, Austin, and Emilie Poole. He was preceded in death by his brother Frank Allen Poole, who is survived by his wife Linda Poole Bashlor. Louie is also survived by his beloved stepsiblings Sam, David, Marc, Sally, Esther and Ann Kaplan. He was preceded in death by step-sister Ruth Kaplan.

A Rosary will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Fox & Weeks Island Chapel. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m., Officiated by Deacon Mike Carbo. Burial will take place at Bonaventure Cemetery with full U.S. Marine Corps honors.

Louie will be remembered for his loyalty, his faith, his service, and the deep love he had for his family and friends.
